On January 25th, 2020, SCARCS participated in Winter Field Day at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park (more <a href="https://scarcs.ca/photos/2020-2029#winter_field_day_jan_25_2020" class="wikilink1" title="photos:2020-2029" data-wiki-id="photos:2020-2029">pictures here</a>). The event was attended by VA7LEH, VA7AGG, VE7TBP, VA7FI, VA7SMI, VE7TBN, and VE7RBE. Special guests were Justine, Caitlin, and Orson, who came for lunch.

<p>
The day was overcast and a bit chilly. A propane fire kept us warm. A BBQ and crock pot kept us fed. VA7FI's generator quietly kept us powered up for the day.
</p>
<p>
We had a <abbr title="Very High Frequency">VHF</abbr>/<abbr title="Ultra High Frequency">UHF</abbr> radio connected to a GP3 and an <abbr title="High Frequency">HF</abbr> radio connected to a 20m/40m fan dipole. The first half of the day, we used a Kenwood TS-440S. In the afternoon, we used an Icom 746 PRO.
</p>
<p>
Highlights were Justine getting on the air and making a contact, VE7TBN coming into his own on the air, getting a contact in Georgia, the cannon, the propane fire, and the camaraderie.
</p>
<p>
We got 13 contacts. There were some frustrating pileups that we couldn't get through on but that is just part of the game.
</p>
<p>
All in all it was a great day and everyone had fun.
</p>

Orson can't wait until “summer field day.”
