When Cell Service Goes Down

Here's an interesting article about how the cellphone architecture can be dependent on the internet to function.

Here on the Coast, a lot of the micro cell towers up the telephone poles connect right into the fiber network, which is kept alive by backup batteries and generators. But it's still dependent on cables and power. So in an emergency, if telephone poles lines break, the cell coverage might be greatly reduced.
