MeshCore Presentation

What it is

MeshCore is an open-source system designed to send text messages without the cellular or internet infrastructure.

It uses your phone (or a computer) paired via BlueTooth (or USB) to a device that transmits on unlicensed ISM frequency bands (909MHz) to enable decentralized, multi-hop wireless messaging using LoRa (Long Range) radio technology.

Use cases include emergency and disaster communications, or simply outdoor and remote activities outside of cellular range.

How it Works

The way it works is:

  • Each person has a small companion device C paired to their cellphone via Bluetooth.
  • Via their companion devices, each person can send and receive private or public text messages without the cellular network. And unlike ham radio, there is no need for a special license.
  • The signal can travel directly between companion devices if they are close enough, or via a series of repeaters R to extend coverage.
